Business As Usual

For those of you that don't know what I do for a living, I am a Financial Consultant.  I get the opportunity to show people a glimpse of their dreams and help them get on the road to achieve them.  Many parts of my job are rewarding, but sometimes challenging.

Most of my clients are in the stage of their life planning for their retirement.  They have 401(k)s, IRAs, insurance policies.  Every now and then I will have a client just looking to make extra money on their investments.  But majority are hard working, driven Americans that want to retire comfortably.

If you work for a large company you are usually provided a employer sponsored 401(k).  There are great tools that employers will often match a certain percentage towards your retirement.  Think of it as free money.  The problem, however, with 401(k)s is for one: most employees have no one to advise them on the plan, and two: most people underfund the plan, creating a gap towards their goal.

With many new client appointments, I create a life plan that not only takes a look at their investment portfolios but also factors in their lifestyle choices present and future.  It is shocking how very few clients have ever had such plan customized for them.  Most people have no idea if they are on track or not.  Most people also have no idea what returns they have achieved since they started contributing.

A financial advisor should be one person that is closest to you and your biggest ally to face these challenges together.  They will be the one to answer all your questions and pose very critical questions to you, to make sure all bases are being covered.  Do not let another year go by not being sure of where you stand.  If you are within 10-15 years of retirement, it is absolutely crucial you talked with a trusted advisor.

If you have an advisor that hasn't talked to you in the last three to four months, you need to be concerned.  You are their boss and have the power to get the type of service and advice you deserve.  Be in control of your future.  As you all have realized, we cannot trust the government to provide a cushy retirement.  Like anything in life, you have to work hard and be disciplined to achieve something of worth.  What kind of legacy do you want to leave?  One where your kids have to take care of you or you taking care of your kids?

I hope this helps you to start getting serious about your goals.  The sooner your start in life, the easier the journey will be.  Please contact me if you feel I can help you in any way.
